The Ancestors of Rome - Etruscan tombs and Necropolis of Cerveteri
The Etruscans were one of the a number of tribes who settled in central Italy before the ancient Roman Empire.
One of their most important centers was Cerveteri, richly and heavily populated since the 9th century BC.
It was a major center for trade and commerce of this enterprising people known for their artistic refinement, luxurious life-style and advanced engineering.
Recently used as a backdrop for “spaghetti westerns”, there are few remains of their city today, but as they believed in life after death, their huge cemeteries were built for eternity…
Their tombs look like houses, containing instruments, tools, jewels, arms, stuccoes and frescoes.
When visiting the ancient “necropolis” (city of the dead) and the National Museum, we will see and admire the way they lived, appreciate their art and their collection of sarcophagi, vases and everyday objects.
