Enjoy a private tour of two of the most famous attractions in the world, the pride and glory of the Vatican City: the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel
During your visit to Rome, the Sistine Chapel must be part of your itinerary. It welcomes between 10,000 and 20,000 visitors a day and is one of the most famous and visited places in the world. This is a very important place for Christianity, the main chapel of the apostolic palace, as well as one of the most famous cultural and artistic treasures of Vatican City. Initially, it was called the Chapel of Sixtus, in reference to Pope Sixtus IV della Rovere, who had it built between 1475 and 1481. It is a chapel consecrated for over 500 years, the conclave that elects the new pontiff is held inside it, furthermore, nowadays, the chief papal ceremonies take place there, other public church ceremonies, instead, are held in St. Peter’s Basilica. Do not miss the most beautiful attractions of the Eternal City
The Sistine Chapel is one of the greatest treasures of the Vatican City, of Rome and of the world in general. The Sistine Chapel is a simple building, 134 feet long by 44 feet wide and 85 feet high. However, it has on its walls and ceiling some of the greater art ever produced in the Western world. Brilliant artists of the early Renaissance decorated the walls with paintings that tell the stories of Moses and Christ – the frescoes by Botticelli, Perugino, Pinturicchio, Ghirlandaio, Rosselli, and Raphael are real works of art.
Inaugurated in 1483, it was subsequently decorated by Michelangelo, who painted the vault, to give birth to one of the most famous ceilings in the world which tells the fundamental story of Christianity. The central theme of these frescoes is Genesis: nine scenes are represented in the Sistine Chapel, with the culmination of The Creation of Adam – just in the center of the ceiling – on which God gives life to the First Man, symbolized exactly by Adam. On the ceiling you can admire the magnificent Biblical stories painted by the Renaissance Genius which depict the history of the creation of the world, the fall of man, and the flood. It took 4 years in total to paint this work: Michelangelo began in 1508 and was inaugurated in 1512 by Pope Julius II. On the wall above the altar is The Last Judgment.
